Challenge:

Each year, Northeastern University's Center for Research Innovation hosts RISE, a science-fair style exposition where hundreds of researchers debut their work, compete for cash funding and garner feedback. Attracting over 1,000 guests, this event is their highest profile event. 

With only an event staff of 30, the pressure is on to make RISE a success. Initially, The Center was unable to track any data on their event attendees nor were were their efficient systems in place to provide any guests a name tag. Tracy Dodenhoff, Director of the Center for Research Innovation said "In previous years, we had to estimate how many people came to RISE.  Since we plan this event annually, having a solid understanding of attendance and what type of guests are interested in the program is crucial."

Solution: 

Tracey and her tream used Attend.com to capture every check-in -- 828 to be exact. With portable name tag printers and Macbooks, The Center created an attractive set-up for arriving guests to quickly check-in and receive their printed name tag.

Results:

The Center collected invaluable data on the demographics of who their 828 attendees were (specifically: Student, Faculty, Alumni, Business Community). They quickly discovered that the event was wildly popular among students (72% of the attendees) and there were far fewer people from the external Business Community, only 3.4%.
